Using curse words were forbidden when we grew up.
Raised with society’s niceties and respect,
those naughty words were spoken only to friends…infrequently.
There were consequences for spewing unpleasantries —
having our mouths washed out with soap, grounded, no television;
or a spanking, if words were directed inappropriately.
Today, those words are spoken publicly, frequently, and on TV.
Everywhere, a string of forbidden words are used
describing people, events, political discourse, and in comedy.
Even the president of the United States uses profanity —
being unable to speak about anything…respectfully.
