SUMMARY:Oculus Serenade: Artwork by Peter D. Gerakaris
DESCRIPTION:Artist Peter D. Gerakaris cites a favorite John Steinbeck quote that encapsulates the ethos of this exhibition: “It is advisable to look from the tide pool to the stars and then back to the tide pool again.” \nIn “Oculus Serenade\,” Gerakaris’s selection of vibrant tondo paintings\, works on paper\, and mosaic artworks focuses our gaze on the wondrous natural world. He describes these round compositions as “merging microscopic and macroscopic perspectives\, which speak to the interconnectedness of life at all scales.” As luminous portals called oculi\, the works present motifs like endangered botanicals\, exotic avian species\, topographical forms\, and aquatic life. The artist has firsthand experience of these subjects through trekking in semi-tropical jungles\, scuba diving amongst fragile coral reefs\, or hiking along the Housatonic in Cornwall. \nAs a visual artist who’s also a musician\, Gerakaris feels colors vibrate like sound\, where the imagery of his oculi “reverberate like stereographic\, kaleidoscopic vignettes\, helping to bridge nature and culture.” \nGerakaris’s exhibit features four uniquely hand-embellished prints and a shimmering cut-glass mosaic that orbit around a hand-painted\, four-foot diameter “Orchid Oculus Tondo.” This central painting evokes a dreamlike cosmos where viewers encounter endangered parrots from St. Lucia and larger-than-life tropical orchids flowing amongst rhythmic foliage. With a harmonious composition\, the meticulously layered elements are hand-painted with a call-and-response process where the artist allows chance spills\, drips\, and dyes to remain exposed—an approach likened to “visual jazz” by curator Simon Watson. \nThe result is exotic transport beyond our winter environs\, and a rare glimpse of the artist’s oculus strand across different media. Like a newly formed sextet performing in concert\, this exhibit offers an engaging visual serenade. \nAmerican interdisciplinary artist Peter D. Gerakaris creates vibrant paintings\, public installations\, origami sculptures\, and mosaics that engage nature-culture themes through a global lens. His work has been featured in numerous exhibits around the world\, and has had art acquired by many institutional and private collections at home and abroad. He has mounted several major projects for the Berkshire Botanical Garden (BBG)\, including the large-scale “Spotted Owl Mosaic”—a site-specific installation in the garden curated by Beth Rudin DeWoody in 2021 for the BBG’s permanent collection. Gerakaris was subsequently the BBG’s Featured Artist for Summer 2024 with his solo exhibition “Microcosms.” \nArtist’s Reception on Saturday\, January 17\, 4-6 PM.\nRegistration requested for reception at https://cornwalllibrary.org/events/

SUMMARY:Shakespeare & Company Presents: The Norwegians by C. Denby Swanson\, Directed by James Warwick.
DESCRIPTION:Shakespeare & Company Presents: The Norwegians by C. Denby Swanson\, Directed by James Warwick. \nSeptember 4-October 4th at 2 pm and 7 pm at the Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre \nSet in a Minnesota bar where heartbreak is served alongside beer\, The Norwegians is a sharp\, surprising dark comedy about love gone wrong—and the lengths we go to set things right. Betty and Olive\, two women reeling from romantic betrayal\, hatch an unlikely plan: hiring a pair of Norwegian hitmen to deal with the men who wronged them. \nEnter Tor and Gus\, professional killers who turn out to be unfailingly polite\, disarmingly gentle\, and almost aggressively nice. As the women’s simmering rage collides with the hitmen’s courteous manners\, the play finds humor in the contrast between Midwestern civility and the brutal business at hand. \nWith witty dialogue and a clever premise\, The Norwegians explores the culture of America’s “flyover country\,” where kindness runs deep—even in the most unexpected professions. At once dark\, funny\, and oddly tender\, the play examines love\, revenge\, and cultural identity\, reminding us that people are rarely what we expect and that even the politest among us may be capable of surprising extremes. \nTickets are $30-$88 and on sale now at shakespeare.org\, or by calling the Box Office at 413.637.3353

SUMMARY:Ant Hampton with Tim Etchells - The Quiet Volume
DESCRIPTION:DATES:\nTuesday\, February 17\, 2026\n11:00 am—5:00 pm \nWednesday\, February 18\, 2026\n11:00 am—5:00 pm \nThursday\, February 19\, 2026\n11:00 am—5:00 pm \nFriday\, February 20\, 2026\n11:00 am—5:00 pm \nSaturday\, February 21\, 2026\n11:00 am—3:00 pm\n________________________________________\nAudio & reading experience / Theatre \nThe Quiet Volume is a whispered\, self-generated and ‘automatic’ performance for two at a time\, exploiting the particular tension common to any library worldwide; a combination of silence and concentration within which different people’s experiences of reading unfold. Two audience members sit side-by-side taking cues from words both written and whispered—via an iPod and headphones—and find themselves burrowing an unlikely path through a pile of books. The piece exposes the strange magic at the heart of the reading experience\, allowing aspects of it we think of as deeply internal to lean out into the surrounding space\, and to leak from one reader’s sphere into another’s. \nThe Quiet Volume won a Bessie Award for Outstanding Sound Design in 2013. \n“This now of the page is what grips me – the present moment\, this one\, summoned here with this arrangement of marks/code\, ink/pixels\, letters and words.” – Tim Etchells \n‘The Quiet Volume’\, this play by Ant Hampton and Tim Etchells leading a spectator into the world of books\, is theatre of a very magical kind. A theatre of the gradual construction of thoughts whilst seeing\, listening and reading. A theatre that pulls the world in and around\, closer to and into the spectator\, by making the very ability to read the world its thematic focus point. (…) It offers a kind of instruction for how to become blind: effectively nothing other than the careful readjustment of sight. Here it works most beautifully\, because the direction of viewing or thinking suggested to the spectator via headphones and text always works both internally and externally\, focussing on the material objects just as much as on the clusters of thoughts to which they are attached. ” —Doris Meierhenrich\, Berliner Zeitung\, 20.09.2010. original german here \n“…the feeling of heightened awareness in which every sound is magnified\, every movement has increased significance and all words dance with possibility (…) there is a sense that we are all privately running amok in the libraries of our minds.” —Lyn Gardner\, The Guardian. SUMMARY:Sister Sylvester & Deniz Tortum - Shadowtime
DESCRIPTION:DATES:\nTuesday\, February 17\, 2026\n12:00—5:00 pm \nWednesday\, February 18\, 2026\n12:00—5:00 pm \nThursday\, February 19\, 2026\n12:00—5:00 pm \nFriday\, February 20\, 2026\n12:00—5:00 pm \nSaturday\, February 21\, 2026\n11:00 am—3:00 pm \nSunday\, February 22\, 2026\n11:00 am—3:00 pm\n_______________________________________\nVirtual Reality / Film\n‘Shadowtime’ is a word drawn from a new lexicon for the anthropocene. It is the feeling of occupying two irreconcilable times simultaneously. Making breakfast for a child\, while knowing that in that child’s lifetime a species of flower that has existed for millennia has gone extinct. Driving to try and make work on time it occurs to you that the gas in your engine is the compressed bones of prehistoric creatures. \nShadowtime takes these temporal incompatibilities and explores them in the realm of virtual reality and simulation theory. To exist in the virtual world is to have two bodies\, four hands\, two hearts—to exist in two worlds at the same time. Alma\, a mysterious guide to this double world\, leads you through questions around climate crisis\, grief\, and the provocation of the virtual as a retreat or shelter\, or as a place from which to come to learn how to be in two places\, two times\, simultaneously.

SUMMARY:"MORE": Paintings by Anna Cypra Oliver
DESCRIPTION:“MORE”: Paintings by Anna Cypra Oliver\nOctober 3 – November 2\, 2025\nOpening Reception: Saturday\, October 3rd\, 3-5:30 \n510 Warren Street Gallery\n510 Warren St.\, Hudson\, NY \n510warrenstgallery@gmail.com\n510warrenstreetgallery.com\nannaoliverartist.com \nHrs: Friday – Saturday\, 12-6\, Sunday\, 12-5 \nHudson\, NY – 510 Warren Street Gallery is pleased to present the fourth show at the gallery for Anna Cypra Oliver\, titled “MORE.” This show of paintings by the artist begins on Friday\, October 3rd and ends on Sunday\, November 2\, 2025. Visitors are welcome. Please join us for a reception with the artist on Saturday\, October 4th from 3 to 5:30 pm. \nSince moving to the Berkshires in 2017\, Anna Cypra Oliver has been fascinated by the meadows and roadside verges that line the roads of her semi-rural neighborhood. When she paints\, she tries to observe\, as closely as possible\, small splashes of light\, changes in color\, in shape\, dark against light\, the blue shadow of a flower carving itself into the bright green of a leaf. She looks hard for the telling detail\, trying to see where light slashes against dark\, where a form emerges in the background of a chaotic foreground. She’s drawn to bright color\, to subtle shifts from one color to another\, and to changes in light. Weeds are as beautiful to her as cultivated flowers\, the wild abundance along every road as the summer progresses: phlox to tiger lilies to cornflowers to Queen Anne’s Lace to purple loosestrife\, but it is really pattern that she is rendering: not the pattern of reality so much as the pattern of form and light. Less is not more to her. Whatever her subject – meadows\, overgrown flower beds\, Mason jars of farmers’ market blooms\, a fish pond – she tries to capture it in all its tangled complexity. \nA writer as well as an artist\, Anna Cypra Olive’s paintings have appeared along with her published essays\, in The B and on the cover of The Best American Poetry 2017. Her memoir\, Assembling My Father (Houghton Mifflin/Mariner Books)\, Layers text\, multiple strands of narrative and images\, ultimately presenting a literary archeology excavated from her parents’ history and her own. \nAlso on view at 510 Warren Street Gallery this month is the work of Laura Chester\, Lionel Delevingne\, Trevor Hunter\, Stephan Marc Klein\, Kate Knapp\, Anne Levitt\, John Lipkowitz\, Nina Lipkowitz\, Mike Magnotti\, Hannah Mandel\, Paul Nueckel\, Marilyn Orner\, Ailian Price\, Janet Hetherwick Pumphey\, Peggy Reeves\, Kenneth Sahr\, Doris Simon\, Guy Sobering\, Ken Tannenbaum\, and Thierry Taule.

Projected onto a veil of mist\, clouds of light converge into fleeting apparitions\, housed within a cavernous\, resonant chamber. The visuals breathe with the elements\, dissolving the boundaries between image and environment\, technology and nature\, presence and absence. \nAs the very ground beneath us shifts from terra firma to techno firma\, the installation invites viewers to stand inside the flux. Inseparable from its surroundings — reshaped and eroded by the winds of time—we are asked\, which age is this\, the sunset or the dawn?

In this urgent and deeply human world premiere\, The Zionists: A Family Storm lays bare how identity\, politics\, and history can tear families apart—and the struggle to hold them together in an increasingly divided world. \nJoin cast\, creatives\, and BSC-loyalists for pre-show drinks\, intermission snacks\, or post-show festivities. These are the most celebratory and in-demand nights of the year.
