To the editor:
With Mickey Friedman pitching, the “no-to-dumping! yes-to-treatment!” team should have won a decisive victory on the field of reason, respect, and restorative justice. The game has been attended by a packed stadium of river advocates and local residents. His pitching struck out the opposing team’s lineup. The visiting team, a mix of seasoned EPA players, PR ringers, and industry shills, came to the Berkshires prepared to play the long game. Aided by frequent steals and with a seemingly unlimited roster, the Visitors play on. Goliaths, they are accustomed to winning, exhausting public opposition. Deep into extra innings, they are unprepared for the perseverance of the noisy, local fans, sustained by their dream of a fishable, swimmable river.
