The red buds atop the maple are ready to burst into the spring sky.
Birds are flirting with sweet mating songs and feather displays.
The brook is high and roaring.
Chipmunks, above ground now, climb up and down a gnarly old tree
full of energy and determination.
The snow is graying —
receding into the soil, as daylily sprouts materialize.
Just days ago, delicate icicles covered honeysuckle branches along the roadside.
Winter and spring wrestle for supremacy —
back and forth from freeze to thaw
cool darkness to warm sunlight.
Until…spring prevails, with lush greenery, earthy scents —
a rhapsody of wildness flourishing.
