To the editor:
“Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.” Does anyone else remember having to type this sentence repeatedly in high school typing class? I can’t get the phrase out of my head, though I would change it to “Now is the time for all good citizens to come to the aid of their country.” 2024 is the time to get involved to save our democracy, our rights, and the rule of law.
The stakes couldn’t be higher. Democracy itself is threatened by people who don’t care that Trump wants to be a dictator; supports Putin; and has already been found guilty of sexual assault, defamation, and fraud. He wants to implement a national abortion ban; punish his political foes; take away Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Obamacare; and get rid of the Constitution and rule of law. Republicans support the flood of immigrants and fentanyl coming across the border because Trump thinks it will help him win in November.
Stop agonizing and start organizing! Help get out the vote to reelect Joe Biden. Votes win elections, and voting couldn’t be easier.
Get involved through your Democratic Town Committee or groups like the Berkshire Democratic Brigades, Swing Blue Alliance, Move On, Left Field, Rural Freedom Network, MassDems, the DNC, DCCC, and more.
Take action, such as by writing postcards and letters; phone banking; texting; door knocking; and contacting friends, neighbors, and relatives to remind them to vote. Donate to candidates and organizations to support their actions. It all makes a huge difference come election day.
Support the activities of your local town or ward committee! They are critical to grassroots organizing and work to elect Democrats to public office. You can start by participating in a Democratic caucus in your town. The Stockbridge Democratic Town Committee will hold its caucus on March 9 at 10 a.m. in the Town Hall to elect delegates to the Massachusetts Convention. Come out to meet your fellow Democrats and other like minded voters. Get involved in local events and projects.
Together we can save our democracy and the rule of law. Help get out the vote to elect Joe Biden and Democratic candidates. Exercise your right to vote and to speak out while you still can. Now is the time for all good citizens to come to the aid of their country!
