“The retreat brings people together, builds community in the forest, gets participants outside and off their screens, and uses nature sustainably to heal and inspire minds and souls,” stated Great Mountain Forest Executive Director Michael Zafros. Retreat registration closes on July 30.
The organization formed in 2002 when retired nurse Marsha Wallace, a mother of four from Greenville, North Carolina, read an article about friends who met for potluck dinners and donated the money that would have been spent on restaurant meals.
CHP provides the only OB-GYN practice south of Lenox and works closely with Fairview Hospital to provide maternity and women’s health care in the community. Fairview is a great place to practice with a midwifery model.
Making dinner is not the only culinary activity in Heilig’s life. She and Linda Baxter, a retired nurse midwife, founded a local chapter of Dining for Women, a national organization with chapters all over America.
