“The retreat brings people together, builds community in the forest, gets participants outside and off their screens, and uses nature sustainably to heal and inspire minds and souls,” stated Great Mountain Forest Executive Director Michael Zafros. Retreat registration closes on July 30.

Flying Cloud educator Kristen Sparhawk says the February vacation activities aim to help kids discover the excitement of learning outdoors in winter: “Last year students built a snow shelter that lasted four weeks and tracked porcupine, otter and coyote. They engineered and tested miniature sleds on a run they built in the field.”
"We are always working on multiple funding streams: grants from many sources and direct fundraising from individuals and businesses. We're an all-volunteer effort, working as a community to build a community resource. We'll keep working.”

Applicants said they were thwarted either by snarled Main Street construction traffic, or technological glitches. This may create a dilemma for the committee, which has now decided to vote on whether to accept the late applications.
