Great Mountain Forest to host Nature Writing Retreat at Historic Yale Camp in Falls Village, Conn., Aug. 7 to 9

“The retreat brings people together, builds community in the forest, gets participants outside and off their screens, and uses nature sustainably to heal and inspire minds and souls,” stated Great Mountain Forest Executive Director Michael Zafros. Retreat registration closes on July 30.

Mario Buffoni, 88, of Lee

Mr. Buffoni attended Lee schools and was a mason contractor for over 40 years. He served in the Korean War, and among other awards received a purple heart.

In her letter to the editor, Tela Zasloff of Williamstown writes: “My husband was a World War II veteran, awarded the Purple Heart … We have to keep it up, defending democracy during the next years of the new presidential administration.”

Robert Joseph Rivers, 67, of North Egremont, Vietnam War veteran, town road crew foreman

Rivers served with Bravo Company of the First Air Calvary. He was awarded the Purple Heart in recognition for wounds sustained in combat and the Bronze Star Medal for heroism.
